Protect your home and your health with a moisture vapor barrier
What is MVB (Moisture Vapor Barrier) and why should it be applied during my floor coating
installation?
MVB is a 100% solids, two part component designed to be used as a moisture vapor retarder to
give maximum adhesion with high build epoxy floor coating systems as well as a binder resin for
a full broadcast flake floor system. It will control moisture vapor transmission and will provide
excellent physical and chemical resistance.
Garage Solutions includes an MVB with your 100% solids epoxy floor system because it has a
much greater tolerance for application to concrete that has higher moisture levels. In other
words a higher tolerance to permanently bond to your current concrete even if there is some
moisture. Without a permanent bond, all the other benefits of the floor coating system become
negated! We feel this is an important part of our install process and it should not be left out in
any concrete floor coating system.
MVB specifically acts as a barrier for both radon gas and moisture. This means radon and other
soil vapors will not be able to move into your home. This is so important for a healthy, resilient,
efficient and overall sustainable home or building – doubly ensures the safety and structural
integrity. Why take the chance?
What is Radon- environmental soil pollution?
Volatile organic compounds are produced and
used in the manufacture of fuels, paints, pharmaceuticals and refrigerants. VOC’s are also
present in industrial solvents, paint thinners, tetrachorethene (TCE, which is dry cleaning fluid),
fuel, oxygenates (MTBE), or chlorination in water treatment systems.
Environmental soil pollution can enter a home or building through the soil which is called vapor
intrusion. When these components are present in the soil through the surface soils, this vapor
intrusion can happen thus potentially impacting the indoor air quality and posing a health risk to
the building inhabitants. This exposure is receiving increased attention by regulators.
